hard of hearing since its creation as a volunteer
organization in 1969. The GLAD facility located in
Eagle Rock is home to numerous and crucial
programs of GLAD including human services, health
education, low-income senior housing,
communication assistance, employment
development, public relations and more. Funds
raised will help assist with the substantial mortgage
of the facility and assist with the building's current
extensive repairs and maintenance.
GLAD occupies the former Women's Christian
Temperance Union (WCTU) Retirement Home, a
historical
landmark. The building was built in 1927 and was
used by the WCTU and its members until declining
membership forced it to close. The WCTU building
went up for sale in 1989, with many offers to tear down
the building and develop the site resulting. In 1991
The Eagle Rock Association stepped in and
successfully petitioned to have the site designated an
historic landmark, thus preserving the building and
grounds. GLAD took over the property in 1993 and
converted it into a deaf-friendly working and residential
environment.

If we have anything left after Saturday's big
event, it will
all go on sale at 50% off on Sunday, June 17 through
Sunday, June 24 from
noon to 4pm . That's a pretty big "if," considering the
number of you who have already come in to secure
that one thing you wanted to be sure to get. We do
need to clear our space quickly, though, so we'll be
making deal on anything that's left, including the
custom-made tin furnishings, solid wood bookcases,
bar stools, and all display items. "Everything" is on
sale, that is,
except The
Reading Couch. That couch has too many memories
to sell off, but it will be here until The End for your final
perusings and musings.
Let us know if you have an interest
in anything else you may see in our store.
Several
music teachers from Dr. Music will be taking over our
space for music lessons starting July 1. They won't
have much need for anything more than a few chairs
and some music stands, and we'd like to see
everything
find a cherished new home.

You all have been such great friends, customers, and supporters! We hate to ask for more, but this weekend Cheryl celebrates her birthday, and the best gift would be to see your friendly face walk through our door sometime during this final week. Our last day will be Sunday, June 24. If you happen to be in late that day, you just might be invited to join us in a Farewell Toast to The Blissful Soul of Eagle Rock. Our hours for the coming week remain:
"Hold on to what is good even if it is a handful of earth. Hold on to what you believe even if it is a tree which stands by itself. Hold on to what you must do even if it is a long way from here. Hold on to life even when it is easier letting go. Hold on to my hand even when I have gone away from you." ~Pueblo Blessing ~
Blessings,
Cheryl, Shirley, and Pam
